How to Let Christ’s Peace Rule Your Heart in the Chaos of Motherhood.

“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”
—Colossians 3:15

As mothers, it often feels like peace is a distant dream—buried under piles of laundry, dishes, and the nonstop noise that fills our homes. But I keep going back to a simple question:
How was Jesus able to sleep through the fierce storm that terrified the disciples?

In Matthew 8:23–27, we read the story of Jesus sleeping during the storm at sea. It’s not just a story about weather—it’s a lesson about peace.

That storm wasn’t gentle. The waves were crashing. The boat was being tossed. And yet, Jesus slept.

Could it be that we, as mothers, have access to that same kind of peace? When our minds are racing and the storm of overwhelm starts to rise, do we have a choice—to panic like the disciples did, or to respond differently?

A Lesson from the Storm

The other night, a fierce thunderstorm rolled through Texas. It was loud enough to shake our home and wake me and my four-year-old from sleep. I rushed to his bed and snuggled him close. As he drifted off peacefully, safe in my arms, I couldn’t fall back asleep.

My heart was racing. I was frozen in fear from the sheer power of the thunder and the shaking windows. And in that moment, I thought about the disciples—terrified in the middle of the sea.

Honestly? I don’t think I would’ve yelled at Jesus to wake up. I think I might’ve just joined Jesus in his sleep but by passing out in fear.

What If You Could Be Held in the Storm?

That night, my son was able to sleep because he was held. He didn’t understand the storm, but he knew he was safe.
And I believe that’s the same peace Jesus offers us in our Motherhood storms.

Jesus sleeping in the storm wasn’t a display of indifference—it was a display of trust. He was held by the Father and fully aware of His authority over the storm. We, too, can be held by Jesus like my son was held by me.

The storm of motherhood may continue. Or it may be rebuked.
Either way—peace is still possible.
But letting the peace of Christ rule in your heart is a choice. An intentional one.

Let Imagination Serve Your Faith

This morning, I felt the storm of overwhelm starting to build again.
The kitchen was loud. The to-do list was long. And my heart was already racing.

So I paused. I turned on some worship music and closed my eyes, right there in the kitchen—the middle of my storm.

I imagined Jesus in front of me, gently holding both of my hands. He didn’t say anything. He didn’t ask me to pray or perform. He just held my hands. And I stood still in that moment.

The chaos around me didn’t stop, but suddenly, peace flooded my heart.
Why?
Because He was with me.

There’s no one else I could have imagined in that moment who would have calmed me like He did.
Only Jesus.

When I opened my eyes, the kitchen was still messy, but my heart was still. My anxiety had lifted. My hands were busy, but my heart was still.

Peace Is Not a Luxury—It’s a Lifeline

This can be you too as a mother. His peace is a beautiful gift. But you must choose to receive it.

Peace is possible in the thick of motherhood.
You don’t need permission to earn it—you just need permission to give yourself grace.
Abiding in His peace isn’t a luxury.
It’s a necessity for the holy work we’ve been given as mothers.

I hope this message encourages your heart and gives you something practical to carry into your day. If it did, I’d love to hear from you.

How can you intentionally invite His peace into your storm today?
